Why Jesus Heals

Why Jesus Heals

God wants you well!  The Scriptures are clear, from Genesis to Revelation that it is God’s will for you to be healed!  When Jesus hung upon that wooden cross, He died not only so that our spirit could be freed from sin, but He also died so that our body could be healed from every sickness and every disease.

You see, Jesus loves the WHOLE man!  In 1 Thessalonians 5:23 it states that God created us as a three part being:  spirit, soul and body.  All three parts of man were affected when sin came into the world through Adam.  In our spirit man we became a slave to sin (Romans 6:17), in our mind we became enemies of God (Colossians 1:21) and in our body we became sick and diseased (Isaiah 33:24).  Jesus died to redeem us spirit, soul and body!

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 tells us that Jesus not only purchased our spirit man through His shed blood on the cross, but that He also purchased our physical body.  It declares, “What?  Know ye not that YOUR BODY is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?  FOR YE ARE BOUGHT WITH A PRICE:  therefore glorify God IN YOUR BODY and in your spirit, which are God’s.”

God wants you to be healed more than you probably realize.  As a matter of fact, the Scripture tells us that Jesus devoted one third of His earthly ministry to healing the sick.  Matthew 9:35 tells us that Jesus’ ministry was comprised of TEACHING, PREACHING and HEALING.  Healing the sick was a priority for Jesus.  It was just as important as preaching and teaching God’s Word.

There are at least seven reasons WHY JESUS HEALS THE SICK.  Let me share them with you today.  I know it will encourage you and build up your faith.

#1 JESUS HEALS BECAUSE OF HIS COMPASSION

Simply put, God heals the sick because He loves us.  Matthew 14:14 declares, “And Jesus went forth, and saw a great multitude, AND WAS MOVED WITH COMPASSION TOWARD THEM, AND HE HEALED THEM.”  I encourage you today to boldly confess, “God loves me!”

#2 JESUS HEALS BECAUSE HEALING IS THE CHILDREN’S BREAD

Healing belongs to every born again child of God.  Divine healing is our covenant right!  In Mark 7:27 Jesus declared that healing is “the children’s bread.”  As a child of God, you have a legal right to be healed.  You do not have to beg God for healing.  It belongs to you!

#3 JESUS HEALS BECAUSE OF THE ATONEMENT

In Isaiah 53:4-5 we learn that Jesus shed His blood on the cross for our physical healing as well as for our forgiveness of sin.  It declares, “Surely He hath borne our griefs (Hebrew word for sickness and disease), and carried our sorrows (Hebrew word for physical pain)…He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities:  the chastisement of our peace was upon Him; and with His stripes we are healed.”

#4 JESUS HEALS TO BRING GLORY TO GOD THE FATHER

Matthew 15:30-31 states, “And great multitudes came unto Him, having with them those that were lame, blind, dumb, maimed, and many others, and cast them down at Jesus’ feet; and He healed them: insomuch that the multitude wondered, when they saw the dumb to speak, the maimed to be whole, the lame to walk, and the blind to see: AND THEY GLORIFIED THE GOD OF ISRAEL.”

God does not get glory from your sickness.  He gets glory when you are healed!

#5 JESUS HEALS TO CONFIRM HIS WORD

The Gospel was not meant to be preached only.  It was meant to be preached and to be demonstrated through miracles, signs and wonders.  Jesus healed the sick to prove that His word was true.  In John 10:37-38 Jesus said, “If I do not the works of My Father, believe Me not.  But if I do, though ye believe not Me, BELIEVE THE WORKS: that ye may know, and believe, that the Father is in Me, and I in Him.”

#6 JESUS HEALS BECAUSE HEALING IS HIS NATURE

In Exodus 15:26 God said to the children of Israel, “I am the Lord that healeth thee.”  Here we find much more than a promise of healing.  In this amazing verse of Scripture, God reveals one of His many covenant names.  Each one of God’s covenant names reveals a different aspect of God’s nature and character to us.  In this verse, God revealed His name as Jehovah Ropha; meaning that healing is not SOMETHING that God has, but rather healing is SOMEONE who God is.  Jesus is Jehovah Ropha in the flesh!

#7 JESUS HEALS TO DESTROY THE WORKS OF THE DEVIL

1 John 3:8 states, “For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.”  Now we know that sin is a work of the devil, but did you know that sickness is also a work of the devil?  Acts 10:38 says that Jesus healed “all that were oppressed of the devil.”  Jesus did not come to USE sickness and disease to teach us things, He came to destroy sickness and disease!
