What About Job?

What About Job?

Even the devil knows the Scriptures!  However, it is one thing to know what the Bible says, but it is another thing altogether to know how to properly interpret the Scripture.   In 2 Timothy 2:15 we are told to “rightly divide the Word of truth.”  If the Word of God can be rightly divided (interpreted), then it most definitely can be wrongly divided (interpreted).

Satan loves to twist the Scripture for the purpose of perverting its meaning.  By doing so, he robs us of the power that is in God’s Word.  We must remember that satan can transform himself into an angel of light (see 2 Corinthians 11:14).  This simply means that he includes just enough truth in every lie that he tells so it will be believable.

Fortunately for us, there are safeguards to protect us from mishandling the Scriptures.  There are rules to Bible interpretation.  Time does not permit me to list all of them here, but if we would follow these two, very simple rules for interpreting the Bible, we will be safe.

This rule simply states that the Bible, all 66 books, is the PERFECT Word of God.  There are no mistakes in the Bible.  God’s Word never contradicts itself.  So if your interpretation of any given Scripture seems to contradict your interpretation of any other Scripture, then your interpretation of either one, or both Scriptures, is incorrect.

This rule simply states that it is impossible to rightly divide God’s Word and come away with anything but FAITH in His promises.  Romans 10:17 tells us that faith comes by the Word of God.  So if after reading God’s Word, you come away with anything but faith in His ability and willingness to save, heal, prosper, protect and bless His people, then you know that you have misinterpreted the Scripture.

Unfortunately, satan has used God’s own holy Word to cause people to doubt His will concerning healing and prosperity.  One of satan’s favorite portions of God’s Word to twist is the book of Job.  Over the centuries, satan has used the book of Job to cause God’s people to doubt that healing and financial abundance is always the will of God.

Personally, I love the book of Job.  When rightly interpreted, the book of Job proves that it is God’s will for you to be healed, live a long and prosperous life, and to be protected from tragedy.  If we follow the rules of Bible interpretation, the book of Job will actually build our faith!

Let me give you a couple of quick facts about the book of Job.  First of all, did you know that the book of Job is the oldest book in the Bible?  Job was written before the book of Genesis.  This means that Job’s knowledge of God was very limited.  After all, he didn’t have the Scriptures!

In Hosea 4:6 God declares, “My people are destroyed for a lack of knowledge.”  In other words, IGNORANCE was Job’s biggest problem!  After reading about Job, it is obvious that what you don’t know CAN hurt you!

In Job 1:21, just after tragedy struck his life and family, Job said, “The Lord gave and the Lord hath taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.”  However, upon closer examination of the Scriptures we learn that this is not a true statement.  Job spoke ignorantly.  God does not give and then take away.  No, God only gives!

John 10:10 makes it very clear that satan is the thief who comes to steal, kill and destroy.  In Matthew 7:11 we learn that God wants His children to have good gifts.  In James 1:17 we learn that God is the giver of every good gift.  The Scriptures are very clear; God only gives, He never takes away!

Even God Himself said that Job spoke without having proper knowledge of God and His ways.  In Job 38:2 God asks Job, “Who is this that darkeneth counsel by words WITHOUT KNOWLEDGE.”  Then in Job 42:3 Job admits that his statement, “He gives and takes away,” was wrong when he says to God, “Therefore have I uttered that I understood not; things too wonderful for me, which I knew not.”

Another fact about the life of Job you should know is that most theologians agree that Job’s troubles only lasted between 9 months to a year.  This is contrary to what satan would have you believe.  He would have you believe that Job lived a life of suffering.  Nothing could be further from the truth!  Job lived a long, healthy and blessed life.

The book of Job actually proves that it is God’s will for His people to be healed and prosperous.  How do I know, you might ask?  Because at the end of the book of Job it states that Job lived for 140 years after his trials of suffering.  During that time he was the richest and most blessed man on the earth.  Job did not live a life of suffering.  Job lived a life of luxury!

Sadly most people only focus on the beginning of the book of Job when they should be focusing on the ending.  It is in the ending where God reveals that it was never His will for Job to be sick and suffer through horrible tragedy.  In the final chapter, God not only heals Job, but He also blesses him with twice as much as he had before!  Job 42:16 declares, “After this lived Job an hundred and forty years….”
