Keys For A Financial Breakthrough

Keys For A Financial Breakthrough
March 12, 2015 Joel Grantham

I hate poverty!  I have seen what it does to people!  How it wrecks people’s lives and leaves people hungry in body and broken in their souls.  It breaks my heart to see so many people living beneath God’s best.  Poverty is evil!  I am convinced that it is the work of a demonic spirit.

In 1 John 3:8 it declares, “For this purpose was the Son of God manifested (came into the world), that He might destroy the WORKS of the devil.”  I want you to notice that the word “works” is plural, not singular.  Satan has more than one work.  Yes, sin is a work of the devil and Jesus redeemed us from the curse of sin while on the cross.  Colossians 1:14 declares, “In whom we have redemption through His blood, even the forgiveness of sins.”

But did you know that sickness is also a work of the devil?  Jesus shed His blood on the cross not only for the forgiveness of our sins, but also for the healing of our bodies.  1 Peter 2:24 declares, “Who His own self bare our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: BY WHOSE STRIPES YE WERE HEALED.”

But there is another work of the devil that Jesus came to free us from, and that is poverty.  2 Corinthians 8:9 tells us that Jesus set us free from poverty while He hung on the cross.  “For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor (He became poor on the cross), that ye through His poverty might be RICH.”

In John 10:10 Jesus declared that the works of Satan are threefold when He said, “The thief comes not, but for to STEAL, KILL and to DESTROY…”  Through poverty he steals, through sickness he kills and through sin he destroys.

When Jesus said that Satan comes to steal, He was referring to the financial realm, not to the spiritual realm.  This word literally means loss of possession or property.  Make no mistake about it; Satan is the author of poverty and lack.  It is not God’s will for His people to live in lack.  Proverbs 10:22 declares, “the blessing of the Lord it maketh RICH.”

In John 10:10 Jesus goes on to say, “I am come (remember in 1 John 3:8 He came to destroy the works of the devil) that they might have LIFE, and that they might have it more abundantly.”  First of all, Jesus said that He is come that we might have life.  This refers to the new birth found only in salvation through Jesus Christ.

But then He goes on to say that He wants us to have abundant life.  What is abundant life?  Abundant life is life in all three areas.  Abundant life is when you have salvation in your spirit, health in your body and prosperity in your finances!  All Christians have life, they are born again, but very few are walking in abundant life.

Today, I want to share with you five biblical keys for a financial breakthrough.  Many of you are in need of a financial breakthrough in your life.  I want to encourage you today that your harvest is on the way!

KEY #1  CHANGE THE WAY THAT YOU THINK ABOUT MONEY

Proverbs 23:7 tells us, “For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he.”  Wrong thinking leads to wrong believing (Romans 10:17), wrong believing leads to wrong speaking (Luke 6:45), and wrong speaking leads to wrong receiving (Mark 11:23).

For years Satan has managed to convince the church that money is evil and that being rich is somehow worldly.  He has even managed to get ministers of the gospel to take vows of poverty!  It’s obvious why Satan wants to keep the church oblivious to its redemption from poverty.  It takes money to preach the Gospel, and if he can keep the church broke, then the Gospel will not be proclaimed to this lost world.

If having wealth was a sin, then God would be the biggest sinner of them all.  I’m not sure if you’ve noticed, but God is rich!  He has streets of gold and a gate of pearl!  Not to mention the mansions and other riches in heaven.  No my friend, there is nothing evil about money.  In 1 Timothy 6:10 it declares that, “the LOVE of money is the root of all evil.”  Money itself is not evil.  It is the “LOVE” of money that God hates.  God is not opposed to His children having nice things, He is only opposed to nice things having His children!

Before you can prosper according to God’s Word, you must begin to THINK Prosperity.  This means that you must renew your mind with what God’s Word says about money.  This is exactly what God told Joshua in Joshua 1:8 when He said, “This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night…for then shalt thou make thy way prosperous and then thou shalt have good success.”

KEY #2  CHANGE YOUR ASSOCIATIONS

Proverbs 13:20 declares, “He that walketh with wise men shall be wise.”  This same principle applies to financial prosperity as well.  You could say, “He that walks with poor men shall be poor.”  Who you associate closely with affects how you think, talk and act.  Show me your closest friends and I will show you your future!  You will never rise above your closest associations.

KEY #3  CHANGE YOUR GIVING HABITS

Poverty is not caused by money that you don’t have, but by money that you do have and shouldn’t.

Proverbs 11:24 declares, “There is that scattereth, and yet increaseth: and there is that withholdeth more than is right, but it leads to poverty.”  The number one cause for lack is not giving enough!

Have you ever stopped to think about it?  Nowhere in God’s Word are we ever warned about giving too much to God.  Yet, throughout the Scriptures we are continually warned about the dangers of giving too little.  It is impossible to go broke by giving to God’s kingdom!

Many of us have gotten into a rut in our giving.  We have gotten to a place where we are comfortable with the amount that we sow into God’s work each month.  Never forget what I am about to tell you.  If your giving does not move you, it will not move God.  If it no longer requires faith to give it, then it will not produce a harvest.  If it doesn’t hurt, it doesn’t work!  (see Psalm 126:5-6)

KEY #4  CHANGE THE WAY THAT YOU TALK ABOUT MONEY

Never talk lack!  Talking lack will cause money to go away from you.  Always say, “The money will come.”  Study Proverbs 6:2, 13:3 and 18:21 on the power of your words.

KEY #5  CHANGE YOUR PRIORITIES

In Matthew 6:33 Jesus promises, “Seek ye FIRST the kingdom of God and His righteousness and ALL THESE THINGS SHALL BE ADDED UNTO YOU.”  God’s work must come first in your life.  Years ago I heard a preacher say that if we would take care of God’s house, He would take care of our house.  If we would pay God’s bills, then He would pay ours!  Put the Gospel first in your life!  Put going to the house of God first in your week, and watch the blessings of God come your way!

Great message, you have done it again Pastor! Very educational.
My question is what’s the place of tithe for the keys for a financial breakthrough as stated in Malachi 3:10 “Bring ye all the tithes unto the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it”?
Hope to hear from you soon.
    Regards,
