“It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows; for so He gives His beloved sleep.” Psalm 127:2
There are natural laws as well as spiritual laws that govern your physical health and well-being. A few of the natural laws that must be obeyed if we are going to enjoy God’s promise of divine health include maintaining a healthy diet, proper exercise and getting enough sleep every night. Your sleep has a great impact on your physical health. If you are having trouble sleeping at night, take Psalm 127:2 instead of a sleeping pill. It works much better than pharmaceuticals!
God’s Word not only promises physical health and healing, it also promises sleep. In Proverbs 3:24 God’s Word promises, “Yes, you will lie down and your sleep will be sweet.” Psalm 4:8 says, “I will both lie down in peace, and sleep; for You alone , O Lord, make me dwell in safety.”
I have never had much trouble getting to sleep at night. For years now, each night before I fall asleep, I apply the blood of Jesus over my home and thank God that His Word says, “He gives His beloved sleep,” and for giving me “sweet sleep.” These two verses have become my sleeping pills! And boy do they work!
According to Psalm 127:2 one of the main reasons for a lack of sleep is anxiety. People who are worried about the future “rise up early and stay up late.” We know that this kind of a person is troubled because it says that they “eat the bread of SORROWS.” However in 1 Peter 5:7 God tells us that we should give all of our worries to Him when He says, “Casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.”
Worrying never solved anything! Your problems are not going to change simply because you stayed up at night thinking about them. Don’t you see that the devil is using anxiety to rob you of the sweet sleep that God has promised?
So what is the answer? The answer is found in Psalm 127:2 in the word “beloved”. It says that, “He gives His BELOVED sleep.” Knowing that God loves and cares for you enables you to sleep. 1 Peter 5:7 tells us to cast our care on the Lord because “HE CARES FOR YOU.” In other words, knowing that God loves you, and that He will not fail you, enables you to rest confidently in Him and sleep at night.
Psalm 55:22 declares, “Cast your burden on the Lord, and He shall sustain you; He shall never permit the righteous to be moved.”
Prayer: I apply the blood of Jesus over my home and my body. Thank You, Lord, for giving me sweet sleep, for Your Word says that you give Your beloved sleep.
