“He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. A thousand may fall by your side, and ten thousand at your right hand; but it shall not come near you.” Psalm 91:1,7
Psalm 91 is by far my favorite Psalm. It contains so much truth and revelation that there would be no way that I could expound on all of it in just a few short paragraphs. However, I would like to bring out the fact that here God promises to protect His Children from physical harm, including natural disasters, tragedies and sickness and disease.
It is important to note that these powerful promises of health and protection do not belong to you just because you are a Christian. The Scripture is clear that these promises only belong to those who “dwell in the secret place of the Most High.”
What the “secret place”? In Psalm 25:14 we learn that God has a secret when it declares, “The SECRET OF THE LORD is with those who fear Him.” Then in Psalm 91:1 we learn that God’s SECRET is a place when it says, “He who dwells in the SECRET PLACE of the Most High…” Then is Psalm 31:20 we learn that God’s SECRET PLACE is His manifest Presence when it says, “You shall hide them in the SECRET OF YOUR PRESENCE.”
The secret place is the place of God’s manifest presence found only in the time of prayer as we wait upon the Lord in private. I love Matthew 6:6 where Jesus taught saying, “But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, PRAY to your Father WHO IS IN THE SECRET PLACE; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.” Here Jesus makes it clear that there is a public reward for private prayer!
Never neglect that special time of prayer. It is dangerous to live outside of the secret place of God’s presence. In Proverbs 22:3 is says, “A prudent man foresees evil and hides himself, but the simple pass on and are punished.” It is when you dwell in God’s presence that God hides you from the enemy. In the presence of God Satan cannot find you to afflict you with sickness or tragedy.
Prayer: Lord, draw me to the place of prayer and hide me under the shadow of Your wings. I thank You for allowing me to enter Your manifest presence.
