“The Lord will strengthen him on his bed of illness; You will sustain him on his sickbed.” Psalm 41:3
Either in a hospital or at home, the most common place that sick people are found is in bed. As a child, I enjoyed sick days because that meant I got to stay home from school and lie in bed all day. However, now that I am grown, I realize how destructive a sick day in bed can really be.
You see, sickness is more evil and destructive than one might realize at first glance. Yes, it causes physical pain and anguish. But the devil uses sickness to rob God’s people in other areas as well.
For one thing, sickness robs you of financial abundance. The cost of receiving medical care is extremely high, even if you have insurance. Remember the woman with the issue of blood who spent ALL THE MONEY THAT SHE HAD on doctors, but never got any better? Proverbs 6:10-11 shows us what will happen to a lazy person who stays in bed all day. It says, “A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep- so shall your POVERTY come on you like a prowler.” The same thing will happen to a sick person who stays in bed all day! Many people have been financially ruined because of sickness and disease.
Another reason the devil likes to keep God’s people sick is to hinder them from being a witness for Christ. Romans 13:11 says, “Now it is the high time to awake out of sleep; for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed.” After all, how can you be used by the Lord if you are sick in bed all day long?
Here in the Psalms we find a powerful promise from the Lord to heal us when we are stuck in the bed sick. I encourage you to memorize this Scripture, letting it sink deep down into your spirit, believing it and claiming it for yourself!
It is not God’s will for you to be sick, lying in bed all day! No, His plan is for your life is for you to be well, out serving Him. Don’t give in to sickness and disease today. Claim God’s promise and let Him come and strengthen your body on the bed of sickness!
Confession: Thank You Lord for Your promise to heal my body on the bed of sickness. By faith I claim healing for my body.
