“Now Isaac pleaded with the Lord for his wife, because she was barren; and the Lord granted his plea, and Rebekah his wife conceived.” Genesis 25:21
God has revealed Himself to humanity through the Holy Scriptures. One mistake that many people make is that they form their beliefs about God based upon their personal experiences rather than the Scriptures. This can be very dangerous and lead to devastating results! Only as we read and study the Scriptures can we truly know who God is and what He is like.
Time and time again, throughout the pages of the Bible, God reveals Himself to us as a merciful and compassionate healer. And in this very scripture, once again God reveals that He is not only ABLE, but that He is WILLING to heal us.
The first thing that I want you to take away from this Scripture is that it is God’s plan and will for married women to have children. In Genesis 1:28, God commands us to “be fruitful and multiply.” In many scriptures throughout the word, God promises that none will be barren. Psalm 113:9 (KJV) is one of my favorites, which says, “He makes the barren woman to keep house, and to be a joyful mother of children.”
So many young couples are having a hard time getting pregnant today. If you find yourself in that situation, let this be a great encouragement to your faith today!
The second thing I want you to take away from this Scripture today is that God hears and answers our prayer for healing. When Isaac prayed to the Lord for his wife it says, “and the Lord granted his plea.” Jesus taught us in Matthew 21:22, “And whatever things you ask in prayer (that includes healing), believing, you will receive.” The only requirement for answered prayer is faith. Simply believe that God will answer your request.
And the last thing I want to bring out about this scripture is the power of a husband’s spiritual authority in the home. This scripture does not say that Rebekah prayed for God to heal her, although I am certain that she did. No, it says that the Lord answered the prayers of her HUSBAND, Isaac. I am in no way saying that God does not hear the prayers of women. Of course He does. But I do want to encourage the husbands to take your place as the spiritual head of your home and to pray for your wife. God has given you the position of authority over your family. Your prayers and faith will bring healing to your family.
Confession: I believe that the Lord hears and answers all of my prayers. Thank you Lord for healing me!
