Day 71: The Destructive Power Of Fear

Day 71: The Destructive Power Of Fear
March 11, 2015 Joel Grantham

“For the thing I greatly feared has come upon me, and what I dreaded has happened to me.”  Job 3:25

Fear opens the door for Satan to attack us.  Jesus said that Satan is the one who steals, kills and destroys.  However, he cannot destroy just anyone that he wants to.  In 1 Peter 5:8 it says, “Your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he MAY devour.”   Before Satan can afflict someone with sickness or disease, he must get permission.  And it isn’t God who gives him permission, it is us.

In Ephesians 4:27, the scripture admonishes us, “Nor give place to the devil.”  This verse makes it very clear that it is our responsibility to keep the door of our life closed to the devil.  Nowhere in the New Testament does the Bible ever tell us to ask God to do something about the devil for us.  But time and time again we are told that we have the authority and the responsibility to rebuke and bind the devil.

James 4:7 tells us that if we resist the devil, he will flee from us.  We should resist sickness like we would resist the temptation to sin.  In 1 Peter 5:9 tells us HOW to resist the devil when it says, “Resist him, steadfast IN THE FAITH.”  It is our faith that closes the door to the devil.

When we are walking in faith, Satan’s attacks cannot continue.  If sickness or pain attacks your body, when you resist IN FAITH, he will have to do exactly what the Bible says that he will do – flee!

One of Job’s biggest problems was his own fear.  You see, fear attracts the very thing that we dread.  Fear opens the door for the devil to bring destruction into our life.  Time and time again, Jesus commanded His disciples saying, “Fear not.”

In Mark 4:40 Jesus rebuked the disciples for their fear saying, “Why are you so fearful?  How is it that you have no faith?”  Their fear almost cost them their lives!  Had Jesus not been there to personally rebuke the storm, they would have most certainly drowned.  Today, you do not need Jesus to personally come and rebuke your storm.  He has given you the authority to rebuke and resist the devil!

When it comes to sickness, one of Satan’s biggest tools is fear.  He wants you to fear the docto’rs report, and to fear what might happen…it just goes on and on!  It is this very fear that is keeping you bound to your sickness and disease.  It is impossible to resist the devil affectively if you are afraid!  Remember, we resist him, “steadfast IN THE FAITH!”

So what is the answer?  The only cure for fear is to fill your heart and mind up with God’s promises in His Word.  Romans 10:17 tells us that faith comes by hearing God’s Word.  You can get so full of God’s Word that you will no longer be afraid of the devil or sickness and disease.

Confession:  God has not given me a spirit of fear.  In Jesus’ mighty name I rebuke Satan and all symptoms of sickness and disease from working in my body.
