Day 7: A Long And Healthy Life

Day 7: A Long And Healthy Life
January 6, 2015 Joel Grantham

“Then Abraham breathed his last and died in a good old age, an old man and full of years, and was gathered to his people.”  Genesis 25:8 (NKJV)

The Word of God is clear that it is God’s will for you to live a long life.  It is never God’s will or plan for one of His children to die at an early age.  As a matter of fact, God actually promises us a long life in many places in His Word.  Of course we will be looking at many of these Scriptures during this year (see Psalm 91:16 for example).

In Genesis 25:7 the Scripture tells us that Abraham lived to be one hundred and seventy five years old.  I think that definitely qualifies as a long life!

In Galatians 3:9 it tells us that through faith in Jesus Christ we have access to the same blessings as Abraham.  You see, Abraham had two kinds of children.  He had natural children, the Jewish people, and he also had spiritual children.  Romans 2:28-29 discusses the difference between an outward Jew (natural descendents of Abraham) and an inward Jew (spiritual descendents of Abraham).

In Genesis 22:17 God promises Abraham, “I will multiply your descendants as the STARS of heaven and as the SAND which is on the seashore.”  Here God prophetically reveals that Abraham would be the father of two kinds of children.  The sand on the seashore speaks of the natural descendants of Abraham.  God certainly has not forgotten the Jewish people and the nation of Israel.  But God also spoke of Abraham’s descendants being as the stars in the heavens.  This speaks of his spiritual descendants through faith in Jesus Christ.

As children of God, through faith in Jesus Christ, we are Abraham’s spiritual children.  And as children of Abraham we can lay claim to all of the blessings and promises that God gave and made to him!  A long, healthy life belongs to all of Abraham’s children!

CONFESSION:  It is by my faith in Jesus Christ that I am a child of Abraham, and therefore lay claim to all of the blessings of God that belong to me, including a long and healthy life.
