17“Now it happened that after these things that the son of the woman who owned the house became sick. And his sickness was so serious that there was no breath left in him. 19 And he said to her, “Give me your son.” So he took him out of her arms and carried him to the upper room where he stayed, and laid him on his own bed. 22 Then the Lord heard the voice of Elijah; and the soul of the child came back to him, and he revived. 24 Then the woman said to Elijah, “Now by this I know that you are a man of God, and that the word of the Lord in your mouth is the truth.”
1 Kings 17:17,19,22,24
How you treat a man or woman of God could determine whether you receive a miracle or not! You see, it is the anointing that destroys the yokes of sickness and disease setting the captives free! (See Isaiah 10:27.) However, what most people fail to understand is that God places His anointing within earthen vessels called ministry gifts, or preachers. (See Ephesians 4:8,11.) Honor is what unlocks the anointing of God.
There were many widows living in Israel during these days (Luke 4:25-26). No doubt, most of them struggling to make it just like this woman! But because this woman was willing to support Elijah financially by housing him and feeding him FIRST, God brought a supernatural miracle of provision to her house. After all, God’s Word teaches in 1 Corinthians 9:11 and Galatians 6:6 that those who receive spiritual things from God’s ministers should give of their natural things.
However, the miracle did not end there, because one day her son became sick and eventually died. The Bible says that Elijah took the boy into the room upstairs that the woman had provided for him, and laid him upon his own bed, and raised him from the dead. Had this woman not honored the man of God by giving him his own room, no doubt the boy would not have recovered from his sickness.
In 1 Timothy 5:17 the Scripture teaches us that we are to show double honor to the man or woman of God that ministers to our spiritual needs. What most people do not realize is that when we honor God’s servants, the anointing that He has placed upon their life begins to flow and touch us. It is impossible to receive a miracle from a man or woman that you do not honor. (See Mark 6:4-5.)
In Matthew chapter 10 Jesus gave His disciples power to heal all sickness. However, He also instructed them to not take any money with them as they travel preaching the gospel. He did this because He knew that unless the people showed honor to the disciples by supporting them financially, the anointing would not flow to bring healing to their sick.
What man or woman of God has He brought into your life? Who have you been receiving spiritual things from? Are you showing them honor by giving to their ministry needs FIRST, even before your own needs? Today, I encourage you to begin to honor the man or woman of God that He is using to bless your life with spiritual things. When you do, the anointing for miracles will be opened to you!
Confession: Thank you Lord for sending your servants (Apostles, Prophets, Evangelists, Pastors and Teachers) into my life. Today, I pray for them and choose to honor them with my actions, words and financial support.
