“And may he be to you a restorer of life and a nourisher of your old age; for your daughter-in-law, who loves you, who is better to you than seven sons, has borne him.” Ruth 4:15
The whole Bible, from Genesis to Revelation, is a revelation of one person; Jesus Christ. If you look closely with the eyes of the Holy Spirit you will find Jesus in every book of the Bible. He is in every story and in every detail! And the book of Ruth is no different.
The main reason that the book of Ruth was included in the Scriptures is because it shows us the lineage of Christ. Matthew chapter one and Luke chapter three both trace the lineage of Christ all the way back to Abraham. Just like the prophets foretold, Jesus the Messiah was the son of King David, born through his lineage. Matthew 1:5 and 6 declares, “…Boaz begot Obed by Ruth, Obed begot Jesse, and Jesse begot David the King.” We would not know this had the amazing story of Ruth not been included in the pages of the Bible.
Ruth 4:13-15 is a prophetic portion of God’s Word foretelling the coming of the Messiah trough the lineage of Boaz and Ruth. Ruth, a widow, chose to stay with her Jewish mother-in-law instead of returning to her home land saying, “Wherever you go, I will go; your people shall be my people, and your God, my God.” (See Ruth 1:16.)
Her faith and dedication was rewarded. God sent Boaz, a man related to her deceased father-in-law, to be her husband. After they married she conceived and gave birth to a son named Obed. A prophecy was given that her son was her “Redeemer” and that his name would be famous in Israel. Of course this was speaking about Jesus, who would be born through this lineage. Ruth 4:15 records the final words of this prophecy, “He may be to you a RESTORER OF LIFE and a NOURISHER of YOUR OLD AGE.”
Jesus is our Kinsman Redeemer! He came to this earth just like the prophets foretold. His name is famous, “For there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” (See Acts 4:12.) Yet, He not only came to give you spiritual life, He also came to restore to you physical health and well being. Why else do you think that He spent so much time and effort during His ministry on earth bringing healing to the sick?
Look closely, do you see Jesus, your Redeemer in the book of Ruth? If you look with the help and eyes of the Holy Spirit I know that you will find Him! Jesus is the Restorer of your health and life.
Confession: Jesus is my Redeemer from sin and sickness. He is the Restorer of my health and of my life.
