Day 48: Your Hair Is Growing back

Day 48: Your Hair Is Growing back
February 16, 2015 Joel Grantham

“Then the Philistines took him and put out his eyes, and brought him down to Gaza.  They bound him with bronze fetters, and he became a grinder in the prison.  However, the hair on his head began to grow again after it had been shaven.”  Judges 16:21-22

The story of Samson has thrilled the hearts and imaginations of children for generations.  Yet, I would like you to consider a deeper meaning in this passage of God’s Word.

Like Samson, because of sin we were all made slaves to the devil.  Because of sin, mankind lost his strength.  You see, God had originally made man to have dominion over the earth and over Satan.  Nothing could bind Adam before he sinned.  But like Samson, humanity lost its strength when sin entered into the world.  We became helpless victims to sin and sickness.

Like Samson, we also lost our spiritual vision.  Sin always puts out the light of God’s Word in the heart.  And the moment you have no vision, no clear revelation of God’s Word, you become a slave to the devil.  Samson, bound by chains, grinding in prison, is a perfect picture of humanity’s condition without Christ.

However, something amazing began to happen!  Even in that dark, cold dungeon, God’s love and mercy could still reach Samson.  His hair began to grow back!  His strength was returning.  And Samson eventually defeated his enemies!

Maybe you feel like you have lost your strength.  Maybe you have had a major setback in life or you have been given a bad report by the doctor.  Your body may feel sick and you may be weary with the struggle against disease. Do not lose heart!  Your hair is growing back!  O, you may not notice it at first because it happens slowly.  But like Samson, your strength is returning.

If God would heal Samson, returning his strength to him even after his rebellion against God’s ways, surely God will not forget you.  There is nothing that you could do to make God stop loving you!  Even if you have missed it in the past and you have lost your strength and you feel like the spiritual light has gone out; don’t look now, but your hair is growing back!  Your spiritual and physical strength is returning.

Confession:  The Lord is my strength.  My hair is growing back!
