Day 4: In Adam All Die, But In Christ All Live

Day 4: In Adam All Die, But In Christ All Live
January 3, 2015 Joel Grantham

“So all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years, and he died.”  Genesis 5:5

This is probably one of the saddest verses in the entire Bible; “Adam died.”  How could Adam die?  A man made in God’s own image.  A man whose body God personally crafted and formed with His own hands.  A man created so perfectly, that he should have lived forever.

Nine hundred and thirty years may seem like a long time to live to you and me but it was a very short life for Adam.  Have you ever stopped to think that if Adam had not disobeyed God and eaten that forbidden fruit that he would still be alive on this earth today?

The Bible does not tell us the cause of Adam’s death.  Maybe it was a heart attack or stroke.  Maybe he had cancer or kidney failure.  We just do not know.  All we do know is that one day, his perfect body began to break down and he eventually succumbed to physical death.

The point that I want to bring out here is this – The entire human race is connected to Adam.  As the first man to ever live, Adam is more than just the biological father of the human race.  He is the master copy of the human race!  Because of this, when Adam sinned and died spiritually, the entire human race died with him.  Why?  Because we were IN ADAM when he sinned.  The law of Genesis states that everything produces after its kind (see Genesis 1:21-25).

This is why Jesus had to come.  Jesus became the new master copy of the human race.  Second Corinthians 5:17 states, “Therefore if anyone is IN CHRIST, he is a NEW CREATION; old things have passed away; behold all things have become new.”

Did you know that there have been two creations of the human race?  The first creation, the Bible calls it the “old man”, can trace its lineage all the way back to Adam.  The first creation is subject to everything that Adam was subject to.  This includes bondage to sin and sickness and disease.

Because the first master copy of the human race was flawed, God had to create a second master copy.  His name is Jesus Christ and He is the master copy of the new creation. Everyone that is IN CHRIST has been freed from the “old things” of Adam, including sickness and disease.  First Corinthians 15:22 says it best, “For as in Adam, all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive.”  If you are in Christ Jesus you do not have to be sick.  After all, Jesus, your master copy, never was!

CONFESSION: I am a new creation in Christ Jesus.  Sickness has no hold or right on me.  Through Christ I am immune to sickness and disease.
