Day 33: Obedience – The Key To Blessing

Day 33: Obedience – The Key To Blessing
February 2, 2015 Joel Grantham

“You shall therefore keep His statutes and His commandments which I command you today, that it may go well with you and with your children after you, and that you may prolong your days in the land which the Lord your God is giving you for all time.”  Deuteronomy 4:40 (NKJV)

God’s plan for your life is good.  He wants it to “go well with you” (Duet 4:40) and to give you “good success” (Joshua 1:8)  Sickness is not God’s plan for you!  He wants you to be healthy and to live a long prosperous life.  That is His perfect will for you (3 John 2)!

I love Jeremiah 29:11 where God says, “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.”  Over and over again the Scriptures refer to sickness as “evil”.  God has good things planned for your future, not evil things, certainly not sickness and disease!

Here in Deuteronomy 4:40 we learn that the key to experiencing God’s best, including physical health and long life, is to obey His Word.  Psalm 19:7-8 declares, “The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul; the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple; the statutes of the Lord are right; rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes.”

It is obvious that most people living on the earth today do not love God or His Word.  To them His commandments are burdensome.  They are like those wicked men that Job spoke about in Job 21:14-15 saying, “Yet they say to God, ‘Depart from us, for we do not desire the knowledge of Your ways.  Who is the Almighty, that we should serve Him?  And what profit do we have if we pray to Him?”   They do not understand that God’s commandments are for their benefit.  God is not anti-fun, He is anti-pain!

Sadly, these are the very same people who cry out to God for help when disaster or sickness strikes.  However, God will not be used as a safety net.  He is not Santa Claus who we just come to when we want something.  He demands that we serve Him with our whole heart and obey His Word.  If we do not, He will not answer our prayers for help when we call.  Just look at what God says about this in Proverbs 1:28-29, “Then will they call on Me, but I will not answer; they will seek Me diligently, but they will not find Me.  Because they hated knowledge and did not choose the fear of the Lord.”

First John 5:3 declares that God’s commandments are “not burdensome.”  It doesn’t cost to serve and obey God’s Word, it pays!  God will reward you for your obedience.  First Timothy 4:8 says that living godly is “profitable”, not only in the next life, but even in this life!

Only when you are walking in obedience to God’s Word do you have a right to claim the blessings of His Word.  The great thing about God is that when we repent, He forgives us immediately and restores us back to fellowship with Him with all of the blessings and privileges that entails.  That includes divine health and healing!

Confession:  Lord, I ask that you forgive me for any disobedience to Your Word and place within me a willing and obedient heart.
