Day 30: God Cannot Lie

Day 30: God Cannot Lie
January 29, 2015 Joel Grantham

“God is not a man, that He should lie, nor a son of man, that He should repent.  Has He said, and will He not do?  Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?”  Numbers 23:19

I’m sure that you have heard the old saying, “If God can do anything, can He make a rock so big that even He can’t lift it?”  The answer is simple – God cannot do everything.  Now before you get upset, let me back up my answer with the Scriptures.

Yes, I believe that God is omnipotent – all powerful, and that He is omniscient – all knowing, and that He is omnipresent – everywhere at one time.  However there is one thing that our omnipotent, omniscient and omnipresent God cannot do.  He cannot lie!

Titus 1:2 does not say that God “will not lie” it says that God “CANNOT LIE.”  Hebrews 6:18 actually says that “it is IMPOSSIBLE for God to lie.”   In other words, God could not tell a lie even if He wanted to!  Hypothetically speaking, if God were to tell a lie, then He would no longer be God.

Before you can have faith in someone’s words, you must know their character.  If you were to meet a complete stranger on the street and they told you that they were going to give you a million dollars in 3 months time, you probably would not put much stock in their words.  Why?  Because you do not know them.  How can you trust someone who has no proven track record with you?

God’s character is flawless.  In over 6,000 years of dealing with humanity He has never once told a lie and not even one time has one of His promises ever failed to come to pass!  Today, be assured that what He has promised in His Word, He will make it good.  All that He requires from you and me, is our faith.  Hebrews 11:6 says, “But without faith it is impossible to please Him.”

From Genesis to Revelation God has promised healing for your body.  You already trust God’s Word concerning where you will spend eternity, surely you can trust His Word concerning the healing of your body.  After all, if He is lying about your healing, then how do you know He is telling the truth about your salvation?

Confession:  God said it, I believe it, and that settles it!
