“And when the cloud departed from above the tabernacle, suddenly Miriam became leprous, as white as snow. Then Aaron turned toward Miriam, and there she was, a leper. So Moses cried out to the Lord, saying, “Please heal her, O God, I pray!” Numbers 12:10,13
A reporter once asked healing evangelist Kathryn Kuhlman what she believed was the secret to all the miracles that took place in her meetings. Kathryn said that it was simple. “If you let the people experience the Presence of Jesus, they will be healed,” she said. I believe that the greatest thing that you can do for your physical health is to abide in the Presence of God. After all, it is the Spirit of God that gives life to our physical bodies (Romans 8:11).
The Presence of God is a master key to a long and healthy life. As long as Adam walked with the Lord’s Presence in the cool of the day, he never had one sick day. But the moment sin entered, Adam and his wife were separated from the Presence. When the Presence, left sickness entered the human race!
Miriam was Moses’ beloved sister. She was also a prophet (see Exodus 15:20). She sinned when she spoke against Moses, challenging his leadership. However, she was not speaking against Moses her brother, she was speaking against Moses, God’s anointed servant. As soon as she spoke out, the cloud of God’s presence lifted and leprosy attached itself to Miriam.
Let this be a warning to us all. Never speak against God’s anointed servants. It is dangerous! Yes, they are human and they make mistakes, but you let God handle the ones that He has called! The moment you speak against one of God’s servants, you invite sickness into your life.
Now I want you to notice something else. As long as the cloud of God’s presence remained, sickness could not touch Miriam. But as soon as the cloud lifted, Miriam became a leper. It is the Presence of God that protects us from sickness and disease.
Psalm 91:9-10 declares, “Because you have made the Lord, who is my refuge, even the Most High, your dwelling place, no evil shall befall you, nor shall any plague come near your dwelling.” How much time have you been spending alone in the Presence of God? Be careful to never neglect the place of prayer. Not only is it the source of your spiritual life, it is the source of your physical life as well.
Confession: I come boldly into the Presence of my Heavenly Father today through the shed blood of Jesus Christ.
