“And you shall consecrate the fiftieth year, and proclaim liberty throughout all the land to all its inhabitants. It shall be a Jubilee for you; and each of you shall return to his possession, and each of you shall return to his family.” Leviticus 25:10
The year of Jubilee, occurring every fifty years, is a time in which all debt is forgiven, any slaves are set free, and all property is returned to its original owners. The year of Jubilee still has great prophetic meaning for you and I today.
When Jesus read Isaiah 61:1-2 in His hometown of Nazareth He declared that He was the prophetic fulfillment of the year of Jubilee. This is recorded in Luke 4:18-19 which says, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed; to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.” “The acceptable year of the Lord” is a reference to the year of Jubilee.
Many Scriptures often have a double fulfillment or dual meaning. While they may literally refer to the nation of Israel, they can also have a later prophetic fulfillment in Christ Jesus. The year of Jubilee is one such scripture.
The natural fulfillment is obvious; on the year of Jubilee all of those who were held captive or in debt would be freed. However, on that faithful day in Nazareth, Jesus let us know that He is the year of Jubilee and that through Him ALL captives, whether spiritual, physical or financial, would be freed. In the Word of God sickness is continually referred to as “captivity” (Job 42:10), “oppression” (Acts 10:38) and “bondage” (Luke 13:16).
Because of Jesus Christ, everyday is the day of Jubilee! You do not have to wait for a future day to be set free from your sickness. Jesus has already set the captives free!
Confession: This is my year of Jubilee! I declare that I am free from all sickness and disease through Jesus Christ!
