Day 20: Life Is In The Blood

Day 20: Life Is In The Blood
January 19, 2015 Joel Grantham

“For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you upon the altar to make atonement for your souls; for it is the blood that makes atonement for the soul.”  Leviticus 17:11

The blood of Jesus not only cleanses the soul from sin, but it also gives life to our physical body!  What the Great Physician revealed to Moses so long ago, doctors have just recently discovered!  It hasn’t been all that long ago since doctors were “bleeding” their patience with leeches, thinking that they were helping them get well; but in actualality they were hindering the healing process.

The word atonement means to cover.  In Hebrew it is the word used to describe the lid on the Ark of the Covenant.  Our English Bible translates it, “Mercy Seat”, but it is the same Hebrew word.  Jesus made an atonement for our sin when He died upon the cross, restoring man to fellowship with God.  The word itself, when broken apart, reveals it’s true meaning: at-one-ment.

Because of Adam’s rebellion, sin entered into the earth.  As we have already learned, sin gave birth to sickness and disease.  God never intended for the human race to know sickness or disease.  Sickness was not a part of God’s original creation.  Sickness is simply a by-product of the sin nature.

Since sin is the root, and sickness is the fruit, it would be impossible to cure one without also curing the other.  This is what Jesus did for us on the cross when He offered Himself as an atonement for us.  When He paid for our sin, He also paid for our sickness and disease, for the two are connected.

The same blood that forgives, also heals!  If it is not God’s will to heal everyone, that would mean that it is not God’s will to save everyone.  When Jesus died for the sins of the world, He also paid for the sickness of the world!  It is the blood that makes atonement for you and me!

Confession:  The blood of Jesus cleanses my soul and gives life to my body!
