Day 173: The Full Gospel

Day 173: The Full Gospel
July 27, 2015 Joel Grantham

“And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.” Matthew 9:35

The three greatest fears of humanity are death, sickness and poverty. Amazingly, we find the answer to each of these fears in the ministry of Jesus Christ, which is one of preaching, teaching and healing.

The preaching of the gospel, according to 1 Corinthians 1:21, impacts a person’s spirit. Whenever a person believes the preaching of the Gospel they receive God’s gift of eternal life, therefore alleviating their fear of death. (Romans 1:16 and 1 Corinthians 15:55-57.) The greatest need for unbelievers is the preaching of the gospel of Jesus Christ! In Acts 11:13-14, Cornelius, the first Gentile Christian, said that an Angel appeared to him and said, “Send men to Joppa, and call for Simon, whose surname is Peter who WILL TELL YOU WORDS by which you and all your household will be saved.”

The teaching of the gospel impacts a person’s soul, or mind. The greatest need for a Christian is teaching! It is through the teaching of God’s Word that our mind is renewed to so that we can know God’s will. It is also through teaching that God frees us from financial poverty by learning how to operate according to heaven’s economic principles. In 3 John 2 the Apostle John connects our soul prosperity to our financial prosperity when he writes, “Beloved, I pray above all things THAT YOU MAY PROSPER…just as your soul prospers.”

And, of course, healing impacts a person’s body. According to this verse, Jesus spent one third of His ministry healing the sick. That means that healing the sick was a major point of emphasis for Jesus. As a matter of fact, He spent just as much time healing as He did preaching. And He also spent just as much time healing as He did teaching.

The gospel was not only meant to be preached and taught, it was also meant to be demonstrated through signs and wonders! In fact, one has not FULLY preached the gospel until they have DEMONSTRATED the gospel with miracles, signs and wonders! In Romans 15:19 the Apostle Paul said, “In mighty signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit of God…I HAVE FULLY PREACHED THE GOSPEL OF CHRIST.”

Over in 1 Thessalonians 1:5 Paul writes, “For our gospel did not come to you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Spirit…” Today we have too many “Word only churches” and “Word only Christians”. No wonder the world has not turned to Christ yet! We haven’t been FULLY preaching the Gospel!

According to Matthew 9:35, God is just as concerned about your physical health and well being as He is your spiritual well being. If that wasn’t so, Jesus wouldn’t have given physical healing equal time along with preaching and teaching the gospel. Nor would He have died on the cross redeeming us from sickness while also redeeming us from sin. God wants you well!

Confession: It is just as much God’s will for me to be healed as it is His will for me to be saved! Jesus died for my sickness and disease as much as He died for my sins.
