Day 170: The Atmosphere For Miracles

Day 170: The Atmosphere For Miracles
July 18, 2015 Joel Grantham

“When Jesus came into the ruler’s house, and saw the flute players and the noisy crowd wailing, He said to them, ‘Make room, for the girl is not dead, but sleeping.’ And they ridiculed Him. But when the crowd was put outside, He went in and took her by the hand, and the girl arose.” Matthew 9:23-25

Many times well-meaning friends and family can be one of the biggest hindrances to receiving a miracle from the Lord. The atmosphere around you is very important when it comes to receiving a miracle! Before Jesus could raise this little girl from the dead He had to first put the crowd of mourners and scoffers outside.

You see, unbelief is contagious. Having negative people around you can make it difficult to maintain an attitude of faith. I have seen it happen many times before; someone receives God’s healing touch in a service but then goes home to their family and friends and is talked right out of their miracle!

I’ll never forget one healing service that I held where God’s power seemed to flow freely. A lady sitting in the congregation, who had come with a large brace on her leg and foot, felt God’s healing power come on her and so she removed the brace on her leg. She then came forward to testify that she was able to walk free of pain. I felt like Oral Roberts holding that brace over my head as I encouraged the lady to run back and forth to show the people that God had healed her. It was a miracle!

About a year later I talked to the pastor of that church and asked him how the lady was doing. He told me that when she got home her daughter had a fit and told her that she had to wear the brace because the doctor had said her problem would get worse if she didn’t. Well, this woman put her brace back on to satisfy her daughter’s concern and in a few days all of her pain and symptoms returned.

Here in Matthew chapter 9 we learn that there are two kinds of people that can hinder you from receiving a miracle. First, there is the emotional person. These people are so overcome with emotion that they actually hinder your faith. These are the weepers and wailers that Jesus had to put out of the house before He could raise the girl from the dead.

In Romans 10:10 the Bible tells us that faith occurs in the heart (spirit) of man, not in the soul of man. Your human spirit does not have emotions. Your emotions are located in your soul. If the devil can keep you in the emotional realm he will be able to defeat you. Victory occurs when you are in faith. Letting your emotions get the best of you is one of the biggest hindrances to faith!

The second type of person that is detrimental to your faith is the mocker. These are those people who mock God’s power, His Word and especially His choice servants whom He has anointed to move in His power. These are the people that will tell you that you are wasting your time going to that healing meeting. Or they may say something like, “That preacher is fake.” In Psalm 1:1 the Bible clearly warns us to avoid such a person when it says, “Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, NOR SITS IN THE SEAT OF THE SCORNFUL.”

Proverbs 13:20 says, “He who walks with wise men will be wise, but the companion of fools will be destroyed.” Here we find the spiritual law of association. Those you surround yourself with have a great impact on your quality of life. So, if you need a miracle in your life, be sure to surround yourself with people of like precious faith! (See 2 Peter 1:1)

Confession: I will not let anyone hinder or talk me out of receiving my miracle!
