Day 161: Three Levels Of Faith

Day 161: Three Levels Of Faith
July 6, 2015 Joel Grantham

(8)“The centurion answered and said, ‘Lord, I am not worthy that You should come under my roof.  But only speak a word, and my servant will be healed.’  (10)When Jesus heard it, He marveled, and said to those who followed, ‘Assuredly, I say unto you, I have not found such great faith, not even in Israel!’”  Matthew 8:8,10

God desires for you and me to be healed so much so that He has given us more than one way to receive it.  The New Testament outlines at least five different methods for receiving divine healing.  A person can receive healing through the laying on of hands as mentioned in Mark 16:18, or by the gifts of healing mentioned in 1 Corinthians 12:9, or through the anointing with oil and prayers of the elders as taught in James 5:14, or through the ministry of those whom God has called and anointed with a special healing anointing as explained in 1 Corinthians 12:28.  However, the highest method for receiving healing is by standing in faith upon God’s written Word.

The highest method for receiving anything that God has promised us in His Word is by faith.  Yet, receiving healing by faith alone, without the assistance of any other previously mentioned method, requires that one has developed their faith to its highest level.  In 2 Thessalonians 1:3 we learn that our current level of faith can be increased when Paul writes, “Because your faith grows exceedingly.”

Jesus mentioned that there are three specific levels of faith.  The first level being what He called in Mark 4:40, “No faith”.  Every one of us starts out at this level.  Until a person hears God’s Word and chooses to accept it as truth, they have no faith.  After all, as Romans 10:14 points out, “How shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard?”

The second level of faith that Jesus mentioned is what He termed in Matthew 6:30 as, “Little faith.”  Little faith is when you believe God’s Word, yet are still moved to fear and worry by your outward circumstances.  This kind of faith produces very little, if any, results because it continually wavers back and forth from faith to unbelief.  James 1:6-7 (KJV) warns us about this by stating, “But let him ask IN FAITH, NOTHING WAVERING…For let not that man think that he shall receive anything of the Lord.”

The highest level of faith is what caused Jesus to marvel in Matthew 8:10.  Jesus called this level of faith “Great faith”.  Great faith is the kind of faith that stands upon God’s Word, unaffected by outward circumstances.  It is this level of faith that always receives the promises of God!  This is the level of faith being referred to in 2 Corinthians 5:7 which says, “For we walk by faith, not by sight.”

The only way to develop your faith is by reading, studying and meditating upon God’s Word.  A wise man once gave some advice to others that they should read as many good books on the subject of faith and healing as possible because the day will come when they will need it.  Don’t wait until you are sick to begin to study what God’s Word says about divine healing.  Begin to build your faith now.  That way, when the day comes that you need to receive healing, your faith will be ready!
