Day 155: The Inner Man Affects The Outward Man

Day 155: The Inner Man Affects The Outward Man
June 30, 2015 Joel Grantham

“But He answered and said, ‘It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’”  Matthew 4:4

God created man to be both a natural and a spiritual being.  The spiritual side of man has just as much (if not more) to do with living in divine health and healing as the natural side of man.  The condition of your inner man will affect the condition of your outer man.

The source for divine health is not found in the natural body, but within the human spirit.  While physical exercise and a proper diet are important to one’s physical health and well being, we must not neglect the most important area of all, a strong and healthy inner man.

Jesus said, “Man cannot live by BREAD alone.”  Here, bread would be what it takes to sustain life in the natural realm.  We know that the body must have food and water, as well as sleep, in order to live.  However, Jesus is telling us that our body also needs spiritual nourishment in order to live.

In 3 John 2 we learn that there is a direct connection to our physical health and our spiritual health.  It says, “Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things AND BE IN HEALTH, JUST AS YOUR SOUL PROSPERS.”  Here we see that our physical health will be in direct proportion to our soul’s health.

So, how do we keep our spirit man healthy?  By feeding it upon the Word of God.  Just as the body needs natural food for sustenance, our spirit needs to be fed with God’s Word in order to be healthy and strong.  Jeremiah 15:16 tells us that God’s Word is food for our spirit man.  It declares, “Your words were found, and I ate them, and Your word was to me the joy and rejoicing of my heart.”

One major key to walking in divine health and healing is to feed your spirit upon God’s Word, especially upon the promises that pertain to physical healing.  When you feed your spirit a steady diet of God’s Word and promises, it will begin to work on your body like medicine, causing you to live in health.  (See Proverbs 4:20-22.)

Confession:   God’s Word is nourishment to my spirit man.  As I feed upon God’s Word it is bringing healing to my body.
