“But to you who fear My name The Sun of Righteousness shall arise with healing in His wings; and you shall go out and grow fat like stall-fed calves.” Malachi 4:2
The whole Bible, from the book of Genesis to Revelation, is a revelation of one Person; the Lord Jesus Christ. In John 5:39 Jesus revealed this truth to His disciples when He said, “You search the scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which speak of Me.” (emphasis added) Then in Luke 24:27 while traveling with two of His disciples on the road to Emmaus it says, “And beginning at Moses and all the Prophets, He expounded to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself.”
Every detail and every story in the Old Testament Scriptures point us in some way to Jesus Christ. Amazingly, the Old Testament opens with a promise of a future redeemer in the book of Genesis and closes with a promise of a redeemer in the book of Malachi. Jesus is the Seed of the Woman in Genesis 3:15 and He is the Sun Of Righteousness in Malachi 4:2!
In John 8:12 Jesus said, “I am the light of the world.” Light speaks of His work in redeeming humanity from the darkness of sin. However, Malachi goes on to say that He will also arise with HEALING IN HIS WINGS. Here we learn that the coming Messiah will not only save people from their sins but that He will also deliver the people from their sickness and disease.
The Hebrew word translated as wings in our English Bible is the word kanap. It literally means an edge or an extremity of a garment. Here we learn that the Messiah will have healing power in the fringes of His clothes!
In Numbers 15:38 the Lord commanded the nation of Israel to make tassels in the edges of their garments to remind them to keep all the commandments of the Law. Jesus of course is the Word of God made flesh (See John 1:14.) Here again we see that God’s Word not only includes provision for our salvation from sin but also healing for our body.
Jesus of course wore the tassels in His garments as commanded by the Law of Moses. These tassels are what the woman with the issue of blood placed her faith for her helaing in saying, “If only I may touch His clothes, I shall be made well.” (See Mark 5:28.) Where do you think that she got the idea that she could be healed simply by touching Jesus’ clothes? That’s right, she was placing her faith in the promise of Malachi 4:2.
The Bible tells us that many others were also healed simply by touching Jesus’ clothes. For example in Mark 6:56 the Scripture says, “Wherever He entered, into villages, cities or the country, they laid the sick in the marketplaces, and begged Him that they might just touch the hem of His garment. AND AS MANY AS TOUCHED HIM WERE MADE WELL.”
Today, the Sun of Righteousness still has healing power available for you. All you have to do is reach out and touch His garment with your faith and you too will be made whole!
Confession: By faith I touch the garment of Jesus and receive healing for my body.
