“Beat your plowshares into swords and your pruning hooks into spears; let the weak say, ‘I am strong.’” Joel 3:10
In Matthew 11:12 Jesus said, “The Kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and the violent take it by force.” In other words, the promises and blessings of God are not going to come on your life automatically. You’re going to have to be tenacious and have some fight to you if you’re going to walk in what God has promised you!
Here God says to turn your plowshares into swords and your pruning hooks into spears. In other words, prepare for war! Plowshares and pruning hooks are used for sowing and reaping. But swords and spears are used for fighting. What does all this mean? I believe that the answer is found in the very next phrase – “Let the weak say, ‘I am strong.’” In context, he is referring to physical health and strength.
You see, when it comes to receiving God’s promise of financial abundance, you must operate in the laws of sowing and reaping. Jesus said in Luke 6:38, “Give, and it will be given unto you.” The Apostle Paul said in 2 Corinthians 9:6, “He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.”
But when it comes to receiving God’s promise of physical health and healing, the law of sowing and reaping is not very effective. We must use a different tool in order to receive our healing. This is why he said to change your plowshares into swords and your pruning hooks into spears. We must FIGHT the fight of faith to receive our healing.
James 4:7 tells us that if we resist the devil, he will flee from us. Sickness is from the devil (Acts 10:38), therefore we need to learn how to effectively resist sickness and disease when it attacks. In 1 Peter 5:9 God’s Word tells us how to resist the devil. It declares, “Resist him (the devil), STEADFAST IN THE FAITH.” Do you see it? We resist the devil with our faith.
Faith is a powerful weapon against the enemy, especially against sickness and disease. When talking about the armor of God the Apostle Paul told us that the most important piece of the armor to put on is FAITH. Ephesians 6:16 says, “ABOVE ALL, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one.”
Please do not misunderstand me. We are not fighting so we can get healed. According to 1 Peter 2:24 we are ALREADY healed! We are not fighting from a standpoint of defeat, but from a standpoint of victory. We are not the sick trying to get healed, we are the healed the devil is trying to make sick.
Not wanting to be sick is not enough to effectively resist the devil. So, exactly how do we use our faith like a shield to resist sickness and disease? With the confession of our mouth! In Joel 3:10, just after he tells us to turn our plowshares into swords and our pruning hooks into spears, he tells the weak to CONFESS, “I AM strong.”
The way that you resist sickness and disease is to confess that you ARE healed. Do not confess that you will be healed, but go ahead and confess by faith that according to 1 Peter 2:24 you are ALREADY HEALED! Then begin to thank and praise God that He healed you two thousand years ago. If you will hold on to your confession of faith without wavering, you will see that He is faithful that promised! (See Hebrews 10:23.)
Confession: I am strong! I am healed! By the stripes of Jesus, I refuse to allow sickness to live in my body.
