Day 143: Sickness Is A Thief

Day 143: Sickness Is A Thief
May 28, 2015 Joel Grantham

“So I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten, the crawling locust, the consuming locust, and the chewing locust.”  Joel 2:25

Throughout the Word of God Satan is personified by different animals.  He is most commonly referred to as a dragon or serpent.  (See Revelation 12:9.)  In Luke 10:19 his demons are referred to as scorpions and again in Revelation chapter 9 we are told that they have the appearance and characteristics of scorpions.

The locust that the prophet Joel is referring to here is clearly the work of the enemy.  In John 10:10 Jesus tells us that the devil is a thief.  One of Satan’s greatest tools to “kill, steal and destroy” is sickness and disease.  He comes not only to try to rob you of God’s free gift of eternal life, but he also tries to rob you of your physical health as well.

At no time does God ever give His children sickness and disease.  The Bible plainly tells us that sickness comes from the devil.  In Acts 10:38 it tells us, “God anointed Jesus of Nazareth…Who went about doing good AND HEALING ALL WHO WERE OPPRESSED BY THE DEVIL.”  Did you notice that it is God Who is in the healing business and that it is the devil who is in the sickness business?

Sickness is a thief!  It robs you of your health, your money, your time and your purpose. After all, just think about how much more effective a person can be for the Lord if they were not sick or in pain!  Sickness literally robs you from fulfilling God’s purpose and plan for your life.

Here in Joel 2 we find a wonderful promise about restoration.  I believe that this can also be applied to physical healing.  God promises not only to restore health to you (Jeremiah 30:17) but to also restore the YEARS that your sickness has stolen from you!

Confession:   God will not only restore health to me, but will also restore the money and years that sickness has stolen from me.
