Day 14: Obeying Natural Laws Of Health & Healing

Day 14: Obeying Natural Laws Of Health & Healing
January 13, 2015 Joel Grantham

“And so it was, on the next day, that Moses sat to judge the people; and the people stood before Moses from morning until evening.  So when Moses’ father-in-law saw all that he did for the people, he said, “What is this thing that you are doing for the people?  Why do you alone sit, and all the people stand before you from morning until evening?”  So Moses’ father-in-law said to him, “The thing that you do is not good.  Both you and these people who are with you will surely wear yourselves out.  For this thing is too much for you; you are not able to perform it by yourself.”  Exodus 18:13-14, 17-18

I think that we have all felt like Moses must have felt in this story at some time or another.  I know that I have!  We must remember that there are two sides to walking in the divine health that God has promised.  There is the spiritual side and the natural side.

While the Bible clearly teaches that God does and wills to perform miracles of physical healing, we must also remember that we live in a physical body and that we must obey certain physical laws to maintain our health.  It is one thing to claim God’s promises of healing by faith, but we must also use wisdom when it comes to living a healthy life.  We cannot expect to remain in good health if we do not maintain a healthy diet, get regular physical exercise, get the proper amount of sleep each night, and stay free from stress and overwork.

Stress and fatigue are one of the main reasons body’s immune system begins to break down its defenses against disease.  God did not create our physical bodies to handle a stressful environment for long periods of time.  Even Moses, the man who knew God face to face, would eventually wear out physically because of overwork and stress!

This is one of the reasons God created the Sabbath day, a day of rest.  God’s commands are always for our benefit, spiritually and physically.  I believe that we should have at least one day of rest and relaxation for every six days of work in order to maintain a healthy life.  It is just wisdom.  Even God Himself took a day off to rest after He created the earth in six days!

Maybe you need to make some changes to your daily routine.  Take some time off for yourself to unwind and rest.  Do not overwork yourself and continue to push your body beyond its limits.  Your body will tell you when it needs to rest.  Listen to it.  God did not design your physical body to be at full speed all the time.  It just cannot handle that kind of pace.

Confession:  The Lord is my Shepherd, He makes me to lie down and rest in green pastures.  Thank you Lord for peace and times of relaxation in my life.
