“Behold, I will bring it health and healing; I will heal them and reveal to them the abundance of peace and truth.” Jeremiah 33:6
In every book of the Bible God reveals that it is His will for you and me to be healed. Here in the book of Jeremiah God once again gives us a very clear promise of physical healing.
Hebrews 8:6 tells us that the New Covenant is better than the Old Covenant because it has better promises. As you read through the Old Testament you will discover that God made many wonderful promises to the children of Israel. He promised to prosper them financially, to deliver them from their enemies and to heal them of all their diseases. What could be better than that?
Well for starters, how about the New Birth? In Jeremiah 31:31 and 33 God said, “Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will make a NEW COVENANT with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah- This is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days (after the Old Covenant is fulfilled by Christ), says the Lord: I will put My law in their minds, and WRITE IT ON THEIR HEARTS; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.” Under the Old Covenant the Holy Spirit did not live inside the hearts of any of the children of Israel, but under the New Covenant the Person of the Holy Spirit lives in us.
Besides salvation itself, the most significant difference between the Old Covenant and the New Covenant is the verb tense. For example, under the Old Covenant God says, “I will bless you” (Deuteronomy 28:2), “I will deliver you” (Psalm 91:14) and “I will heal you” (Jeremiah 30:17) – all in the future tense. But under the New Covenant God says, “I HAVE blessed you” (Ephesians 1:3), “I HAVE delivered you” (Colossians 1:13), and “I HAVE healed you” (1 Peter 2:24) – all in the past tense.
When did God reveal to us “The abundance of peace and truth” that Jeremiah 33:6 talks about? When He sent His Son Jesus to the earth. Jesus IS the truth (John 14:6) and He is our peace (Ephesians 2:14). When did God bring the health and healing that He promised in Jeremiah 33:6? I think you are catching on! Healing is not something that God gives today. Healing is Someone Whom God gave two thousand years ago! Your healing is not in your future: your healing is in your past!
Confession: My healing was paid for two thousand years ago at the cross of Calvary. God has already done it! By His stripes I am healed!
