“For I will restore health to you and heal you of your wounds, says the Lord.” Jeremiah 30:17
Here in the book of Jeremiah we find another powerful promise in God’s Word concerning healing. From Genesis to Revelation, God’s Word is clear on the issue; it is His will for you and me to be healed!
Many have taught that God uses sickness to teach His people lessons. However, the Word of God does not teach this! As a matter of fact, the Bible says just the opposite. In 1 John 3:8 it says that Jesus came to earth for the purposes of DESTROYING the works of the devil, not to use them! The only thing that God is trying to teach you from your sickness is how to receive your healing.
I have heard some people say that their sickness was a blessing in disguise. However, I have read my Bible from cover to cover and never found where it says that sickness is a blessing in disguise! In Acts 10:38 it is called oppression of the devil. In Luke 13:16 it is called bondage from Satan. Job 42:10 calls it captivity (KJV) and Psalm 107:20 calls it destruction. And then in Psalm 41:8 it is called evil.
God is not using sickness to teach you, the devil is using it to defeat you! Nowhere does the Bible does call sickness a blessing in disguise. In Deuteronomy chapter 28 God tells us that sickness is a curse from the devil, not a secret blessing from God. And Galatians 3:13 tells us that Christ has redeemed us from the CURSE!
I think one of my favorite passages in God’s Word is found in Matthew 7:11 where Jesus says, “If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, HOW MUCH MORE will your Father Who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!” The principle is clear- If we would not do it to our children then neither will God do it to us.
Not one of us would purposefully make our children sick so that we could teach them a lesson. Not only would you not purposefully make your child sick, if they were sick, you would do everything in your power to get them well. A good parent would gladly trade places with their child who is suffering.
Well, God loves you MUCH MORE than you and I love our children! God does not want you to be sick. He wants to heal you! He desires for you to be healed so much that He traded places with you! God came to earth in the form of a man named Jesus Christ, and He took stripes on His back, and died upon a wooden cross, so that we might be healed!
Confession: God is not using sickness to teach me. Sickness is from the devil to defeat me. Jesus has redeemed me from the curse of sickness and disease.
