“Surely He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed Him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.” Isaiah 53:4
Bible scholars agree that, in this scripture, Isaiah was prophetically speaking about Jesus on the cross. According to 1 Peter 2:24 Jesus bore our sins in His own body while on the cross, completely paying the price for our salvation. But that is not all! It goes on to say, “By Whose stripes you were HEALED!” On the cross Jesus not only paid for our sins, but He also paid for sickness and disease!
It is regrettable that the Bible translators failed to properly translate Isaiah 53:4 from the original Hebrew into English. The word translated from the Hebrew language into English as “griefs” is actually the word for disease and sickness. (See Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance of the Bible H2483.) And the word translated as “sorrows” actually means pain. (See Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance of the Bible H4341.) On the cross, Jesus not only bore our sins, but He also bore our sickness and our physical pain!
We find further evidence of this found in Matthew 8:16-17 when it says of Jesus, “When evening had come, they brought to Him many who were demon-possessed. And He cast out the spirits with a word, AND HEALED ALL WHO WERE SICK, THAT IT MIGHT BE FULFILLED WHICH WAS SPOKEN BY ISAIAH THE PROPHET, SAYING: ‘He Himself took our INFIRMITIES and BORE OUR SICKNESS.’” As you can see, there is no denying it! According to Matthew’s Gospel, Isaiah 53:4 refers to physical healing! Maybe those who translated the Bible into English could not read Hebrew as well as Matthew!
Physical healing is a part of the atonement of Jesus Christ. Healing has to be God’s will for every person. Why? Because what Jesus did on the cross is for every person! How could God say “no” to your healing after Jesus paid such a high price for it? Jesus died so we could be healed as much He died so we could be forgiven! Why don’t you take full advantage of all that Jesus purchased for you? Why settle only for salvation when you can also have healing for your body?
Confession: On the cross, Jesus bore my sickness and my physical pain. It is God’s will for me to be healed!
