“And the inhabitant will not say, ‘I am sick’; the people who dwell in it will be forgiven their iniquity.” Isaiah 33:24
Sin and sickness are linked together in God’s Word. You can’t cure one without also curing the other. The Christian does not have to be bound by sickness anymore than he/she has to be bound by sin. Jesus has completely redeemed us from them both.
To understand God’s promise of divine healing you must understand the origin of sickness and disease. It was never God’s plan for humanity to suffer with sickness and disease. Sickness was not created by God. Sickness came into the earth as a result of mankinds’ fall into sin.
In Genesis 2:17 God commanded Adam saying, “But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it YOU SHALL SURELY DIE.” In the original Hebrew it actual reads, “Dying you shall die.” Because of Adam’s disobedience he experienced two deaths, not one. He not only died spiritually, he also died physically. Sin is not only the cause of spiritual death, but it is also the cause of physical death (which includes sickness and disease).
Sin gave rise to sickness. Romans 5:12 tells us that DEATH came into the world through sin. You must remember, Adam and Eve were supposed to live forever. God never intended for them to die. As a matter of fact, the Bible tells us that the very last enemy that God will destroy will be DEATH! (See 1 Corinthians 15:26.) Death is not God’s friend, death is God’s enemy!
The root cause of sickness is the sin. Sin is the root and sickness is its fruit! Now, I am not saying that the reason that people are sick is because they have unrepented sin in their life. What I am saying is that the reason that sickness exists in the earth is because sin exists in the earth. Sin and sickness are forever linked!
There are other Scriptures that show this same truth. Psalm 103:3 declares, “Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases.” James 5:15 states, “And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.” Lastly, 1 Peter 2:24 says, “Who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness – by Whose stripes you were healed.”
Do you see it? At the SAME TIME that Jesus paid for our sins, He also paid for our sickness and diseases. It has to be this way because sin and sickness are linked together! You can’t cure one without the other! You can’t cure the root (sin) without also curing the fruit (sickness).
The very same Jesus that is your Savior is also your Healer. On the same cross where He paid for your sins, He also paid for your disease. The same precious blood that was shed for our forgiveness was also shed for our healing! If you have been forgiven of your sins, then you have also been healed of your sicknesses and diseases!
Confession: Jesus Christ paid the price for my sin and my sickness. I do not have to be sick anymore! I have been forgiven and healed!
