Day 103: Surrendering To God’s Will For Your Life

Day 103: Surrendering To God’s Will For Your Life
April 12, 2015 Joel Grantham

“The fear of the Lord prolongs days, but the years of the wicked will be shortened.”  Proverbs 10:27

It is possible to die before your time.  Sadly, many Christians die before they should, their life being cut short because they never consecrated themselves to completely following God’s plan for their life.

It is a dangerous thing to play games with the will of God for your life.  Make no mistake about it, God has a specific plan just for you.  But you will never discover God’s plan for your life until you completely surrender to His will by separating yourself from your old life of sin.  In Romans 12:1-2 God’s Word says, “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.  And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”

Until one has given God their physical body, with all its desires, and has yielded their will to His will, they will never discover God’s plan for their life.  This is one of the reasons that Christians die before they should.

In 1 Corinthians 12:18 the Apostle Paul wrote, “But now God has set the members, each one of them, in the body just as He pleased.”  Here we learn that every Christian has a specific calling within the body of Christ.  It can be dangerous to live outside of your calling, doing the wrong thing.  It may be a “good thing” that you are doing, but if it is not what God has called you to do, it is wrong for your life.

Don’t forget about King Uzziah.  Like King Saul, God had called him and anointed him to be king over His people.  However, he wanted to also be a priest, and when he tried to offer the sacrifices that God had said that only the priest were allowed to offer, he was struck with leprosy and died.   One of Israel’s greatest kings died before his time because he missed God’s will for his life.

In 1 Corinthians 11:30 it says, “For this reason many are weakened and sick among you, and many sleep (die).”  What was the reason given that many of God’s people are sick and dying at an early age?  Verse 29 tells us that it was because they were, “not discerning (properly understanding) the Lord’s body.”

The phrase, “The Lord’s body” has many applications.  The first reason many are sick and die before they should is because they do not understand that Jesus paid for their sicknesses and diseases when He offered His body on the cross.  (1 Peter 2:24)  Another reason that many are sick and die before their time is because they do not discern their place, or calling, in the body of Christ.  Remember, in 1 Corinthians 12:18 it says, “But now God has set the members, each one of them, in the body just as He pleased.”

The fear of God will keep you in the will of God for your life.  And as long as you stay in God’s will for your life, you are protected.  So, wholly consecrate yourself to God’s will for your life.  Surrender to Him!  Be willing to give up the things He asks you to give up.  Be willing to do what He says to do.  This is a key to living a long and healthy life.

Prayer:  Lord, I surrender to Your will and plan for my life.  Not my will I pray, but Thy will be done.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
