“My son, give attention to My Words; incline your ear to My sayings. Do not let them depart from your eyes; keep them in the midst of your heart; for they are life to those who find them, and heath to all their flesh.”
God’s Word will not only keep you free from sin (Psalm 119:11), but it will also keep you free from sickness and disease by healing your body! Here we find further proof that healing is God’s will for every person. After all, if God’s Word can heal you, then healing must be for every person, because God’s Word is for every person.
God’s Word will work for everyone as long as they are willing to work it. In other words, God has no favorites. His Word will work for me just like it will work for you. As a matter of fact, it is impossible for His Word to fail. (See Isaiah 55:11. If we fail to receive what His Word has promised, it is because we failed, not the Word.
Here in Proverbs 4:20-22 we find God’s prescription for healing. In verse 22, where it says that the Word of God will be “HEALTH to all their flesh,” the literal Hebrew translation is “MEDICINE to all their flesh.” In other words, God’s Word will work on your physical body just like medicine.
If you have ever been to the doctor and had them prescribe medication for you, then you know that it is very important that you follow the instructions that are written on the bottle when taking it. The medicine will not work as designed if you do not take it according to the instructions. The same thing is true about God’s healing Word. It will not work properly unless you take it exactly as prescribed!
Let’s take a closer look at the instructions for how to take God’s Word as your healing medicine. The first thing God says to do is to pay attention to His Word. We must make spending time in God’s Word a priority if it is going to bring healing to our body.
Secondly, we are told to listen to God’s Word. Romans 10:17 tells us that faith comes when we HEAR the Word of God taught and preached. This tells me then, that the church you attend has a major impact on whether or not you walk in God’s promises of health and healing. Choose a church where they teach and preach that it is always God’s will for the sick to be healed.
Thirdly, God tells us to read His Word. However, it is not enough to simply read through it like a novel. We need to devote time to actually study it. 2 Timothy 2:15 in the King James Version says, “STUDY to show thyself approved unto God.” Reading and studying the Word are two entirely different things!
The last instructions that we are given for the Word of God to bring healing to our physical bodies is to keep it in our hearts. This tells me that just because you put the Word in your heart several years ago, does not mean that it is STILL in your heart. He would not have said, “Keep them in the midst of your heart,” if once they are put in there, it never leaves.
How do we put the Word in our heart? By following the first three instructions of: making the Word a priority, listening to it and studying it. When you do this consistently, then God’s Word will become medicine to your flesh.
Confession: God’s Word is medicine to my body. Sickness cannot stay because God’s Word never fails!
