Day 1: Where Does Sickness Come From?

Day 1: Where Does Sickness Come From?
December 31, 2014 Joel Grantham

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth: then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good.”   Genesis 1:1 & 31 (NKJV)

God is a good God!  The great evangelist, Oral Roberts, said it best when he said, “God is totally good and the devil is totally bad.  There is no badness in God and there is no goodness in the devil.”

In the first chapter of Genesis we learn that God never intended for mankind to suffer with sickness and disease.  In fact, He did not create sickness and disease!  Nowhere does it say that God created arthritis or cancer or heart disease.  God’s original plan for man is His eternal plan for man.

In the very last verse of the first chapter of Genesis it tells us that everything God originally made was “very good.”  That means that anything that is not good was not created by God.  It’s a simple rule to follow: if it is good, it comes from God, and if it is bad, it comes from the devil.  In Matthew 7:11 Jesus tells us that our Heavenly Father only gives good things to His children.  In James 1:17 it declares that every “good gift” comes from above.  Nowhere in God’s Word is sickness ever referred to as something “good”.  It is always referred to as something that is bad.

Acts 10:38 says that, “Jesus went about DOING GOOD and HEALING all that were oppressed of the devil.”  Here, healing is referred to as “GOOD” and sickness is called “oppression of the devil.”  Psalm 41:8 calls sickness, “An evil disease…”  And in Deuteronomy chapter 28, sickness is listed as a part of the curse, not one of God’s many blessings.

So where does sickness and disease come from?  To answer that question you must understand that the earth that we are living on today is not the way that God originally created it to be.  The earth has fallen to its current state.  Sickness and disease was not a part of God’s original plan.  Sickness came into the earth through the fall of man.

If sickness came into the earth because of man’s sin, then the cure for man’s fallen, sinful nature would also be the cure for man’s struggle with sickness and disease!

Confession:  Healing is good and sickness is bad. My God is a good God and healing is His will for me.
